Tri-County Office on Aging (TCOA) was founded in 1974 as the Area Agency on Aging serving Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties and the cities of Lansing and East Lansing, with a mission to promote and preserve the independence and dignity of the aging population. This is accomplished by connecting individuals with resources and providing over twenty different programs and services at no or low cost. Following are just a few:
Last year TCOA’s Nutrition Program provided nearly 513,000 meals to local seniors and persons with disabilities. Hot meals are delivered by Meals on Wheels volunteers. Senior Dining Sites provide hot meals, along with health screenings, physical fitness, nutrition education, special programs and guest speakers.
The Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program educates and empowers beneficiaries in understanding Medicare, Medicare supplemental plans, and Medicare drug plans. The program helps applicants with Medicare Part B and Part D premium assistance and Medicaid.
Project Choices/MI Choice Program offers an alternative to nursing home care by coordinating and arranging for key services in the setting of the client’s choice. This program respects each individual’s right to make care choices based on all available options. The Nursing Facility Transition Program (NFT) offers choice to individuals currently living in a Nursing Facility who express a desire to live in a community based setting. Housing Assistance is available to individuals transitioning back to the community.
Information & Assistance provides information on topics of importance to older adults and persons with disabilities. Options Counseling is available regarding long-term care options.
